The Fiat Punto has been revealed as Britain’s least expensive car to maintain, according to a new study of the most popular 50 vehicles in the country.
An average annual maintenance cost was calculated for the UK’s top selling 50 vehicle models. The final figure includes a figure based on the average annual cost of ownership. That figure includes servicing, MOT and the costs of unexpected repairs that might arise during the year.
The Fiat Punto takes the honours for the cheapest car to maintain. Its average annual maintenance cost is just £255. It is closely followed by the Peugeot 206 (£283) and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (£289). The most reliable car of all was the Audi A1, which has only got a 1 in 1,610 chance of needing an unexpected repair. Next, best is the Renault Clio (1 in 1,249), the Nissan Note (1 in 1,055), Seat Leon (1 in 864) and Hyundai’s i10 (1 in 292).
These figures were calculated from September to September between 2017 and 2018 and are based on cars of each model up to 15 years old. By combining data from a garage comparison website and official government car registration statistics, the average cost of ownership could be extrapolated.
