One of the major car warranty suppliers has revealed what the top costliest 10 faults were in 2018. The list of the top 10 most expensive car repairs for the year included problems that cost from £5,009 to £8,928.

The most expensive repair of 2018 was a replacement cooling fan motor that cost £8,928 to repair – why so much? Well, it was for a Lamborghini Aventador! The next two biggest insurance payouts in 2018 were a Porsche 911 Carrera 2’s engine (£8,709) and an Audi A1 Engine (£6,254).


The rest of the top ten were:

  1. McLaren gearbox (£6,084)
  2. Land Rover engine (£5,900)
  3. Ford clutch (£5,524)
  4. Mercedes engine (£5,306)
  5. BMW engine (£5,239)
  6. Skoda fuel system (£5,084)
  7. Nissan differential (£5,009)

Lawrence Whittaker, the Warrantywise Chief Executive Officer, said: “If your car goes wrong, then chances are you will be met with an expensive repair bill.
