Is your car's MOT due this September or October? Drivers are being urged to book their MOTs as soon as possible as the Covid extension means that there will be an extra 1.3 million MOT tests falling due in these months.
Motorists whose vehicles are due for an MOT in the next two months are being urged by the DVSA to book their tests as soon as possible as demand for garage services is expected to soar. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has revealed that 1.3 million extra MOTs are due in September and October compared to the same two months in 2019.
The spike in MOTs is because of last year's six-month MOT extension which was put in place at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. Many car owners were allowed to push their MOT dates back when garages were required to close in March 2020. The DVSA estimates a 22 per cent increase in MOTs this September and October compared to the same months prior to the pandemic as a knock-on effect of the 6-month exemption from 2020.
The agency's records show that 9.58million drivers took advantage of the MOT extension, and this has altered the peaks and troughs in MOT volume across the calendar year. It follows are reported 60 per cent increase in MOT demand in the first half of this year as more and more drivers flock to their local Ellesmere Port MOT garage for their obligatory annual car safety check.
